The Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE Delivers Smart Style in a Rugged Package
The Casio G’zOne Commando® 4G LTE is built for roughing it. Ideal for heading outdoors, working at the construction site or going for a long run, here is everything you need to know about this rugged smartphone.
The original Casio G’zOne Commando® was one of the first rugged smartphones to hit the market, and the next generation continues to be on the cutting edge of innovation. Nature lovers and extremists beware because you just might fall in love with the new Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE and never look back.
Out with the old, in with the new
The first Casio G’zOne Commando graced the technology world with its presence way back in 2011. That’s centuries in smartphone years. Its arrival to the public marked the debut of the first truly ruggedized smartphone, and while the original was a great piece of technology, the Commando 4G LTE has made leaps to get to the standard of rugged smartphone supremacy it’s at today—Near Field Communication technology, a faster processor, global capabilities, etc.
So what are the major differences between the 4G LTE and its predecessor? First off, you have the luxury of Verizon’s 4G LTE network with the latest model, so you can enjoy the conveniences of being on the nation’s largest 4G LTE network. Plus, capture precious memories with 8 megapixels of photographic beauty, rather than the 5-megapixel camera on the original.
Other improvements include a larger screen size—an upgrade to 4 inches from the previous 3.6-inch screen. There is also more memory on the new phone: 16 GB of internal memory (formatted capacity is less), plus an SD card slot that can support up to 32 GB as opposed to the 1 GB of internal memory and an 8 GB pre-installed microSD™ card. (To access the memory card slot, remove the cover and the battery, and find the slot on the inner side of the battery cover.)
Built to rough it
If only we lived in a world where every piece of technology was waterproof. You can keep dreaming, or you can take a look at the reality of the water-resistant characteristics of the Casio G’zOne Commando 4G LTE. It is up to MIL-STD-810G standards (which means it can withstand being submerged in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes, as long as all access points are securely closed) and has waterproof properties against tap water. If exposed to liquid that’s not from the tap, simply give it a quick rinse—don’t rub!—while holding the battery cover, charging/data port cover and headset cover. Be mindful to keep this phone away from hot and pressurized water, as exposure to these elements may damage the device.
Be aware: when fully submerged, the phone does not operate. If you do get it wet, simply wipe off the screen before trying to use it. Otherwise, your touch screen will act a bit funny, and you may suffer from “fat thumb” syndrome.
Just because the phone can handle some H2O doesn’t mean everything else can too. Keep the headset adapter, desktop cradle and AC charger away from the wet stuff, because they don’t boast the same immunities to moisture.
Juice it up
Battery life is one of the top concerns for any smartphone owner, and it is no different for the rugged warriors who own this phone. It comes with an 1800 mAh Li-ion battery, or you can purchase the extended 2920 mAh battery. Both batteries will fit in the charging cradle.
If you’ve got the original version of this phone, your old charger will work with your new one. The battery, however, will not be compatible, so don’t plan on relying on it as a backup.
